Year before entering college:
- Notify Dr. Maxwell of your interest in music major, minor or other.
- Come on campus for a tour and free lesson with Dr. Maxwell.
- Read about the Department of Music online at www.k-state.edu/music
- Apply to Kansas State University on line at www.k-state.edu
- Plan to audition for scholarship in November at our Future Music Careers and Educators Day, in January at the K-State Concert Band Clinic, or our Scholarship weekend in February. If none of the dates work, we can always schedule an alternate time.
- Get excited! This will be the beginning of great things to come!
How to prepare for a scholarship audition
- Prepare your music in advance, something that includes both slow and fast passages (see below for literature ideas).
- Prepare to play a major scale and do some sight-reading.
- Contact the School of Music, Theatre and, Dance and Dr. Maxwell to get a time for an audition. There are special audition days, but also can be arranged if that works best for you.
Day of Audition:
- Plan to arrive early, find out from Dr. Maxwell where to park and warm up.
- Dress for success! (look and sound good)
- Bring enthusiasm!
